Irish CSO Livestock Slaughterings - May 2012
The number of cattle slaughtered in May 2012 was 13.1% lower than in May 2011.Cattle slaughterings decreased by 13.1% in May
The number of cattle slaughtered in May 2012 was 13.1% lower than in May
2011.
A further comparison of May 2012 and May 2011 slaughtering figures also
shows that
- Sheep slaughterings increased by 18.2%.
- Pig slaughterings increased by 10.2%.
The number of cattle slaughtered in January-May 2012 was 12.9% lower than
the corresponding 2011 period. Over the same period there was an increase of
7.6% in sheep slaughterings and an increase of 7.8% in pig slaughtering.
Comparing EU figures for the periods January-March 2012 and January-March
2011, Ireland showed a 7.3% increase in pig slaughterings while of the major EU
pig producing countries, Spain recorded an increase of 4.8% . During the same
period Denmark, France and Germany recorded decreases of 5.3%, 1.3%
and 0.9% respectively.
