The liveweight lamb market rebounds following falls

The liveweight lamb market rebounded from the falls seen last week, as numbers coming to market decline. In the week ended 22 June the new season GB SQQ rose by 5p on the previous week, to reach 188.1p/kg. This meant that prices went back above the level seen in the same week in 2015, following falls seen last year. This year’s prices are now 17p/kg higher than the same period in 2015. The largest rises were seen towards the end of the period, with prices on Wednesday 22 June up by 16p on the week at 190.8p/kg.

Robust cattle trade for another week

Despite the upwards movement in the trade in recent weeks, encouraging producers to market cattle, prices moved up again in the latest week ended 18 June. The GB all prime average strengthened another 2p on the week earlier, to average 321.0p/kg. Reports suggest that competition from processors is still robust and that waiting lists for scheme cattle have followed those for commercial types, and have evaporated. The average R4L steer and heifer values both moved up another penny on the week at 333.3p/kg and 333.0p/kg respectively. R3 young bulls moved up 2p to 321.0p/kg.
