More notable pressure on prime cattle trade

In the latest week the pressure on the prime cattle trade intensified. The malaise on the retail side of the equation continues to drive caution amongst processors, despite reports suggesting that queues for processing cattle have dissipated. In the shorter trading week ended 2 April the GB all prime deadweight cattle average was back over 4p on the week earlier to 317.9p/kg.

Liveweight lamb trade strengthens again

The liveweight lamb trade has continued to strengthen in the past week, although prices began to decline towards the end of the period.

In the week ended 6 April the GB SQQ was up by 3p to reach 192.6p/kg. This left prices 7p below the same period in 2015, although this included the Easter period. However, most of this increase came at the start of the week, with prices towards the end of the week beginning to fall behind the levels of the previous week.
