AHDB Cattle and Sheep Weekly - 14 March 2016
Continuing drift down in the cattle trade
In week ended 5 March the deadweight prime cattle trade drifted down again. Given that broadly the same number of cattle were processed, compared to the week earlier, the movement again demonstrates the ongoing malaise in the trade at the moment. Overall, the all prime price fell by over a penny on the week to average 326.8p/kg.

Both live and deadweight markets strengthen
The liveweight lamb trade has continued to move higher in the past week as higher demand in the build up to Easter has been more than enough to overcome higher numbers coming to market.
In the week ended 9 March the GB SQQ rose by 2p to reach 189.3p/kg. However, the difference compared to the same week in 2015 increased to 9p below. The largest gains were seen towards the end of the period, with the SQQ on Wednesday 9 March reaching 187.8p/kg, up 4p on the previous week. Prices were up as the Easter procurement drive began, while the value of the pound remains weaker than the same period last year.
