Cattle trade close to equilibrium

The fine balance between supply and demand has continued in the week ended 7 November, as the market appears to be close to finding an equilibrium. The overall prime cattle price of 343.5p/kg was up by less than a penny on the week, close to where it was two weeks ago, despite an increase in estimated prime cattle slaughterings.

Liveweight lamb trade continues to strengthen

The increase that began in the liveweight lamb price in the previous seven days has gathered pace this week.

In the week ended 11 November, the GB SQQ was up by 7p on the previous week at 153.5p/kg. However, this remains 20p below levels seen during the same week last year following a similar rise seen then. The largest gains were towards the end of the week, with prices on Tuesday 10 November and Wednesday 11 November up by over 10p/kg, with the SQQ on Wednesday 11 November at 156.0p/kg.
