U.S. Shell Egg and Egg Product Exports

Total U.S. shell egg exports, including hatching eggs, were down 2% for January-October 2014 compared to the same period in 2013. Fresh chicken egg exports increased 2% while fresh bird egg exports fell 51% over the same period. A 36% decline in fresh chicken egg exports to Mexico were offset a 105% increase to Canada. Hatching egg exports were up 11% for chicken eggs, unchanged for bird eggs. Exports for processed/cooked bird eggs fell 32%. Chicken hatching egg exports to Canada grew 78%, exports to Mexico were up 10%.

Egg products exports were up 8% for the period, driven by increased exports of dried yolk (+60%) and liquid/frozen albumen (+47%). Dried egg yolk exports were higher to Japan (+96%) and Germany (+81%). Liquid/frozen exports rose 9%; increased exports to Canada (+82%) more than made up for declines to Mexico (-30%) and the Netherlands (-38%).

Mexico, Canada, Japan and Hong Kong are the top export markets for U.S. egg and egg products by value. In 2013 these four countries accounted for 65% of total exports; for January - October 2014 they account for 69% of total egg and egg product exports.
