USDA International Egg and Poultry: United States Turkey Imports & Exports
January 2014 domestic net turkey poult placements in the United
States (US) were 22,113,000. US domestic net turkey poult
placements for January 2014 were 6% below 2013 and 2% below
2005 for comparable time frames. Net domestic turkey poult
placements include imports.Meanwhile, US live turkey chick (under 185 grams) exports for January 2014 were 74% higher than 2013 and up 63% over 2005 for comparable time frames. US January 2014 live turkey chick (under 185 grams) imports are down 28% from 2013 and 14% lower than 2005 for same time periods. The number 1 import source and export destination of US live turkey chicks is Canada.
US total live turkey chick imports for 2013 were 16% lower than 2012 and 8% below 2005. US total live turkey chick exports for 2013 were 6% above 2012 and 3% lower than 2005.
The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) February 28,2014 fresh tom breast meat weekly weighted average of $217.12 was 15% higher than the 189.00 weekly weighted average on January 25, 2013. USDA net poult placements for February 2014 are 1% below February 2013 and 9% lower than January 2013. US January 2014 live turkey chick imports 28% lower than January 2013.
US January 2014 turkey meat exports are 10% lower than 2013, but up 58% since 2010 and 23% higher than 2005 for comparable time frames. US January 2014 turkey meat imports are 24% below 2013, down 37% since 2010 but 100% over 2005’s turkey meat imports.
Total 2013 US turkey meat exports are down 5% from 2012, but up 33% since 2005. Total 2013 US turkey meat imports are 8% lower than 2012, but still 28% above 2005.
