The value of poultry meat increased in 2011.Highlights
Value of poultry meat increases in 2011
- Value of poultry meat sales totalled $2.6 billion in 2011, up 14.1% from 2010.
- Canadian farmers produced 1.2 million tonnes of poultry meat in 2011. Chicken, including stewing hens, which accounts for 87% of all poultry meat produced, is up 0.4% from 2010. Turkey meat production stood at 160 thousand tonnes in 2011, an increase of 0.4% from the previous year.
Egg production increases in 2011
- The value of egg sales reached $1,021.3 million in 2011, an increase of 9.1% from the previous year.
- Egg production reached 641.4 million dozen, up 0.8% from 2010. The central region produces over half of the eggs in Canada, with Ontario producing 241.6 million dozen eggs and Quebec producing 113.5 million dozen eggs.
