Editorial: Call for Clear COOL Labelling

The farming sector in the UK has sent out a clear message to the powers in Europe that it wants a policy of clear country of origin labelling laid down in law.

The National Farmers Union in the UK says that the labelling needs to "provide accurate, clear and relevant information so consumers can make an informed choice."

The NFU is concerned that the current guidelines are confusing and can be misleading.

Meanwhile, it appears that US beef is gradually starting to appear on the Taiwanese market again.

In the US pork production is down on a year ago, but in the EU pig meat prices are starting to stabilise.

The effects of the recession on processing companies, however, are clearly shown in the results from the giant Tyson, that this year has posted a loss of $537 million.
