Mexico Forecasts 12 Per Cent Beef Export Rise

23 April 2015

MEXICO – Mexican beef exports are expected to rise by 12 per cent this year as the number of federally inspected animals continues to grow.

Shipment estimates are for 160,000 tonnes to be exported, says the Mexican Association of Cattle Feedlots (AMEG).

Last year, Mexico exported 143,000 tonnes of beef.

Numbers of cattle passing through the Federal Inspection System have increased 46 per cent in ten years, rising from 1.4 million to 2.7 million head of cattle annually, says a press release from the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (SAGARPA).

The industry has maintained an annual growth rate of 17 per cent, propelling Mexico to the number twelve beef exporter in the world.
