Argentina-China Make Progress in Opening Markets for Meat

ARGENTINA - Argentina and China are pressing ahead with negotiations to open up exports of meat and food products

And following a meeting between the Argentine Secretary of Institutional Political and Agricultural Emergency Coordination, Javier Rodríguez and the Chinese Ambassador to Argentina, Wanming Yang a technical visit to Argentina has bee n planned by China.

This visit to inspect the sanitary and processing systems is expected to open up exports of chilled beef and beef on the bone.

"We are very pleased with the work we are doing with China, who remains key to our agricultural markets,” said Mr Rodriguez.

“Last year we opened up the market for sorghum, pears and apples, and the first shipments are expected this year.

“Argentina has great potential to provide quality meat and we are now moving in the negotiation of protocols for export of chilled beef and pork on the bone and as well as cattle and poultry."

Ambassador Yang expressed interest in working closely with Argentina and reiterated China’s commitment to see greater trade flows between the two countries

He promised to take the necessary steps to finalise the health mission to Argentina.

The potential for meat exports to China stated in February with a state visit by the president of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, when she called on her opposite number in China to open up the Chinese market for boneless chilled beef and beef on the bone. .
