24 June 2014

PAKISTAN - Broiler rates in the market has increased due to non-implementation of the Poultry Act and people are forced to buy expensive and substandard chicken meat.

According to The Nation, these views were expressed by Special Assistant for Livestock Ch. Muhammad Arshad Jatt while presiding over a departmental meeting in which he issued instructions for the sale of chicken and eggs at cheaper rates.

He said that preventive measures against different diseases of chicken are being taken by the Livestock Department with the cooperation of the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) and chicken meat and eggs will be sold at cheaper rates during Ramadan.

Mr Jatt said that the Chairman of the PPA will cooperate with the Punjab government in this regard.

Mr Jatt directed the District Livestock Officers and Veterinary Officers working in the field throughout Punjab to ensure provision of chicken meat and eggs at affordable rates.

He said that the foremost priority of the Punjab government is to provide poultry items to the citizens at a cheaper rate. The Special Assistant directed all District Livestock Officers to ensure timely provision of quality mutton, beef, chicken and eggs at affordable rates during Ramadan in bazaars, and said that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
