Meat Workers Step Up Action at Affco

09 March 2012

NEW ZEALAND - Meat workers at eight Affco processing plants on North Island are to escalate industrial action following the lock out of workers in the on-going dispute over pay and contracts.

The action next week is expected to include two-day strikes, overtime bans and training of new employees, who have replaced locked out workers.

The decision was made after talks among Meat Workers Union delegates from AFFCO plants in Moerewa, Wiri, Horotiu, Rangiuru, Feilding, Whanganui, Wairoa and Napier at Taupo.

The move follows the lock out of about 1,000 workers by Affco, which is owned by Talley's.
