Lahore Slaughterhouse Nears Completion

24 November 2011

PAKISTAN - A state-of-the-art slaughterhouse being built at Shahpur Kanjran near Lahore is nearing completion and is expected to start production in December.

The processing plant, which has been built with aid from Iran, will supply meat to the Lahore district, according to a report in the Business Recorder.

The slaughterhouse will also help to boost exports of halal meat from the Punjab once it has gained export certification, the report says.

The slaughterhouse has two lines each with a capacity for 6,000 animals a day.

The project has been led by the Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO) and is Pakistan's biggest automated meat processing plant which is attracting investment from local and international investors.
