ICA Foils Raw Barbecue Pork Smuggling

29 December 2010

SINGAPORE - If you plan to bring in meat or meat products into Singapore, you might be introducing infectious animal diseases into the country.

This warning comes from the Immigrations and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), following the arrest of a Singaporean man, who tried to smuggle 48kg of raw barbecue pork from Johor, according to Cannelnewsasia.com.

ICA officers found the raw meat which was concealed in the spare tyre compartment and side panels of a Singapore-registered car, on Sunday evening, at Woodlands Checkpoint.

The man claimed to have bought the barbecue pork for about S$150 (RM368) in Johor.

He had intended to deliver the meat to a market in Geylang Serai.

But ICA officers have since disposed of the meat and the man has been referred to the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) for investigations.
